You are on Ayurvedic Yoga with Anxiety and Stressy-ness with Kelly Marie Mills and The Dosha Life podcast

Ayurvedic Yoga is pretty good with anxiety and stressy-ness -

Unfortunately it has become a part of our life, stress related illness has gone viral.

To me the general definition of stress is the delicate balance of a structures ability bear weight -

When the structure  can no longer hold the weight without creating a problem within its own structure, this is the beginning of stress related problems -

And anxiety is a vata weight - vata tries hard to understand things, but when it cant connect the dots (as there is space between dots this also increases vata) then vata gets more spacey and the mind begins to move very fast, setting off all sort of problems for the vata body type especially

Pure vata types don't have it so easy since they have little to support them unless they have a good system set in place - and pure vata types, they are willowy, short or tall, very difficult to gain weight or they can gain a little weight but their body can't hold on to it easily...mainly because they are so busy in their mind and their body - space and air as their most dominant elements for their life, they have got to seek things that are all about the other three elements, fire, water earth -

And because space and air combine...it shows up to us as movement - like vata rules, runs and is captain of our nervous system...because there is very little weightiness there, it has to do with vital body functions and anything to do with movement in the body...that means vata and  the n.s. is primarily a vata owned area of the body.

And since there is already a link there to the nervous system, imagine how fast any reaction to life happens for a vata type, they don't have a minute to even think before their reaction is showing up and they can often be surprised themself when it happens!!

You know like when someone decides to scare you - and your minding your own vata type self, creating something wonderful in your mind and not taking much notice of anything outside of that as you walk or really you tend to be all flowing and swaying as you walk or do da moves like jagger (thank you maroon 5 ...you rock )

And suddenly someone jumps out from around a corner and you don't know what happens but next thing you know you are flailing your arms and screaming like a goose ...cause like geese are vata like too

And all that  energy going outward is really really tiring and that's when overwhelm happens, that's when the fright gives a bit of shaking to the body, thats when its hard to find a good soothe for vata…sugary tea won't help, a warm blanket will, being told to calm down really won't help, but curling up small and tucking yourself in towards your body will ...slow long out breaths will help ...and apart from your friend being very very sorry they just thought it would be silly - maybe on top of all that you didn't sleep well last night from some stress or other, which is also a vata type problem ... you know the remedy…

some oil on your tummy and a hot water bottle cause you use it regularly to soothe yourself on the tired days of too much work ...and it calms you down straight away! Stops anxiety in its tracks….or warm oil on the whole body, let it sink in for 20 to ten minutes and then a beautiful bath or a warm warm shower...and you feel almost right, except you will need a warm herbal tea, like with cinnamon, or cumin or some such warming herb

It's wild...and wildly simple - guarantee you...it works really well on vata types, vata kapha types too ...and pittas yes but not for too long with the heat for pittas cause they are already pretty warm….

And you know this upward outward flailing of arms is one of the five types of vata - which means air or wind

One of the five vayus called viyana - and viyana is the one that delivers nutrients to our body...it also delivers adrenaline

The vayus are the xpressions of vata - its just vata is the umbrella and the other five live here...you already know one - and they are all super important..all the doshas are important, without one working the others cannot work and we have all three doshas within each person. And each has five vital operating components

The first is Prana, it is our part of the the essence of life, the unaltered universal wakefulness...but as it is a part of vata is is also an unstable form of the essence of life...that's another story, so i will slide forward, and prana is the precursor to the inhale, it happens before the breath but we are taught initially that it comes with the breath like alongside the breath...but prana is the beginning of all things - even those things we do not like - it being the movement of the life force, so if it is an ending in it is also moving towards the cessation of whatever may be happening.

Prana fills us up, through the soles of the fee to the crown of our head, but it mainly starts at the first chakra put o the crown chakra

As humans we tend to have ideas about things, and this can alter our pranic intake...it can vitiate it, but also prana can scoot along side the their vayus ...just going for a spin and deciding to try out a hiccup or a little heart palpitation ….prana resides in the head, it is always trying to benefit our life for the purpose of the four goals of life (link will be provided in the show notes) by sending us little nudges, little reminders, little soft kicks and playful ticks and sneezes to get us to listen up -Yo we got the start of a problem down there...do you hear me?

But our mind gets to make choices on how the body gets to operate. This doesn’t always work out so well cause like ...like i am always saying. In my classes...we need to pause to hear what we are saying

Samana is the balance of air...which in fairness is a great paradox...cause like how is that possible balancing air - it is active on the in breath pulling prana in towards the centre of our body

when balanced we can digest our life sufficiently, and we understand easily — this Prana negotiates the path of the digestive system, in its peristalsis, it helps to crease the vibration of transformation and does exactly the same will all nourishment all sensory information we receive -when out of balance, it can get hyper or hypo and both cause problems in the body as sluggishness or dismayed to unbounded misunderstandings and frustrations as emotional responses to not being able to perceive information with discernment

Viyana then is the opposite and it transmit and sends the nourishment to our whole being - it is best actives on the exhale - and it's the one that gives us the gut instinct and like i was saying can scare the bejeebers out of us and get us to run when it was only a joke, but it also gives us the power of soothe over the whole body, like when warm oil sits into the body, like when we are in savasana after a yoga practice, like when we are in stillness and the silence of meditation -this giving way to all that is ...this is too viyana

Udana is the one that most of us may not really consider as a thing in life because you know...it doesn’t come us with an action of the body, so it is harder to perceive...except that is all about expression  and how we express our digested experience

It also is about kapha, and releasing excess kapha - mainly because it is excess kapha that can block balanced udana through congestion, stagnation, dullness

But there are ways to heal kapha in the damp winter of Ireland or if you live in canada or Seattle put your hands up! I totally get it!

Junior the snoring breath helps keep kapha balance, and it can also help to rebalance kapha….the breath - just air in movement in the head, the nasal passages, the throat with a slight tiny restriction in the throat can remove and reduce excess kapha….

Make sure and meet a good solid teacher about this delicate practice, as tuition for its correct use is so important... if you want to learn with me , send an email to the dosha life and I would be happy to help -

Apana is not really the last but I put it here just because it is the only prana the only vayu that is not always ON

It is the timely one, it has times for doing things and it needs to know that there is structure in our life for it to operate properly - we can be overdoing everything without some irritation to the body - and depending ..as usual, on your own past and your dosha type, our digestion starts to act weird, out of sync, doing to much or not enough, or our menstrual cycle changes and it doesn’t function the way it did before ….there are both big outages of viyana, of the energy that opens the body to eliminate what is no longer useful …

So it too is a significant way letting go ...even in small ways

The Vayus,  the 5 Pranas are the most important forces in our life…

For the next few days try my favourite relaxation, from Yoga Ayurveda Living - the link is also in the show notes and Kelly Marie Mills will guide you in a way of first and most importantly, connecting to them..getting to witness the, to feel them, to have aha moments about them, adn the more you practice this relaxation the more you will learn about viyana and its ability to soothe our body as much as its power to send us into freaking out in our own bungalows effect - like bananas in Panama’s jumping around and can't escape….

Next week we cover the pitta special powers of agni - i will put that in the notes too...wow you have lots to revisit if you want! And we all need a good balanced fire to help support a beautifully glow riots life ...knowing that whatever we have, whatever we may wish we had, we can always come back to the beautiful inner winsome  that , we need not have it all, but have what we need-

The goals of desire come from a deep desire to know peace, laughter, understanding and love-

May we all find what is already here, unity. In prana

Through the wisdom of  Ayurveda and Yoga together, I look forward to chatting to you in the next episode
